FAQs: New to the Studio

FAQs: New to the Studio

Do I need to sign up and pay in advance?

Please! If you have the ability to sign up and pay in advance using our website or the Acuity App, do it. While we don’t want technical issues to interfere with your ability to practice yoga, walk-ins are discouraged. Our teachers are not able to assist you with registration and payment before class. Additionally, we honor capacity limits and you’ll be turned away if the class is full.

What should I wear?

It depends on the class! In general, wear comfortable clothes in which you can move freely. In classes with standing and/or faster paced movement, such as Hatha and Vinyasa, loose clothing might get in your way. In hot classes, you’ll be comfortable in clothes that wick moisture and dry quickly. In classes with slow, subtle movements like Yin and Restorative, you can show up in your pajamas and wouldn’t be out of place!

What should I bring?

We recommend a yoga mat, full water bottle, and an open mind. (We have a dispenser with cool, filtered water for refills.) Storage space for personal belongings is limited. And…you can always just show up empty handed!

Do you have loaner mats and props?

Yes, we are proud to loan out Hugger Mugger Tapas Mats courtesy of the HMBHS Boys Basketball program, who purchased the mats and keep them at Swell for this purpose! We also have blocks, straps, bolsters, blankets, and eye pillows that are cleaned after use. (Please do not use fabric props for hot classes!)

What if I’m running late?

Coming in late to class–no matter how quietly you try to do it–is disruptive for both the teacher and the other students. It should be rare. Students who enter after class has started will be marked “late” and charged a $10 late fee through the card they have on file. After two (2) late charges in the same class, you will be asked to find a different class that works with your schedule. All late fees go to support our donation-based community classes. Please do not text or call teachers’ personal numbers in the hour before class to tell them you are late. We appreciate your intentions, but this is distracting for the teacher and impacts their ability to be present for the start of class.

What is your cancellation and refund policy for regular weekly classes?

Up until four hours before class start time, you may cancel or change a booking online using your confirmation email or through personal account on the Acuity App. We do not offer refunds. If you paid as a drop-in, please email membership@swellyogastudio.com and we will issue you a credit.

You may not change or cancel a class less than four hours before start time. This will result in a “no-show” and be deducted from your method of payment (drop-in, class pack, or limited subscription.) Monthly unlimited subscribers will be charged a $25 no-show fee. If you’d like to let us know why you can’t make it, feel free to text the studio phone or email support@swellyogastudio.com. You do NOT need to text the instructor. Exceptions are made when extreme weather and/or road closures affect more then 20% of the roster. Other request for exceptions: please email support@swellyogastudio.com

Please do not text or call teachers’ personal numbers in the hour before class to tell them you are not coming. We appreciate your intentions, but this is distracting for the teacher and impacts their ability to be present for the start of class.

Please note: Cancellations to The 108 must be made 24 hours in advance.

Cancellation policy for workshops and special events: Cancellations more than one week in advance will be transferred to credit at Swell Yoga Studio. Cancellations made less than one week in advance later are not available for credit but can be transferred to another student.

Do you have a waitlist for full classes?

No waitlists. Our cancellation policy sometimes creates openings in those hours before a class begins if you would like to check during that time and grab it.

Do you offer discounts for certain demographics?

A 10% discount is available to students, teachers, seniors, farmers, and frontline workers (including healthcare and veterans) subject to proof of ID.

  • “Students” and “teachers” refers to a full-time educational role in an academic setting.
  • “Seniors” does not have an age limit: if you feel you’ve been around long enough to earn it, we won’t question you!
  • “Farmers” refers to anyone who whose income is at least 50% reliant on agricultural production.

Please honor the students, teachers, seniors, farmers, and frontline workers in your life by not abusing this offer.

Do you offer free classes and/or new student specials?

We are proud to offer high-quality and accessible weekly donation-based classes. Community classes, like our Monday night Meditation Group are open to the general public. We also work with local organizations to offer classes to specific populations. Please check our schedule for the most current offerings.

Anonymous donations from both attendees and our paying students sustain these classes. (Venmo: @SwellYoga) If you are part of an organization that would like to partner with us for a donation-based class, please contact us.

For all other classes, students new to the studio have the one-time to option to purchase either a New Student 3-pack or New Student One-Month Unlimited.

How can I contact you?

Email is preferred. Please allow 24-48 hours for a response:

The studio phone number is 650-759-1117. Please call or text any time. Note, this is not an individual’s personal phone number and we prefer you use this number rather than personal phone numbers regarding the yoga studio. While we may receive your message right away, please allow 24 hours for a response. Please do not text or call teachers’ personal numbers in the hour before class to tell them you are late or not coming. We appreciate your intentions, but this is distracting for the teacher and impacts their ability to be present for the start of class.

What if I’m not happy with something about a class/teacher/studio?

We encourage you to contact us immediately and be both honest and discerning. We believe that better solutions are available through direct and thoughtful communication. We will not respond to issues via social media or delivered through a 2nd party.
