108 Sun Salutations?!
Yes, you can do it!
Each quarter, during Solstice or Equinox, join Natalie (and yogis around the world) in this special and empowering ritual that marks the season change. Natalie has led this practice for over a decade and is a thoughtful and compassionate guide.
How does it work?
Natalie will provide a thorough introduction to the practice, review logistics, and lead you in an opening chant and reflective mediation.
Logistics include:
- options for the type of Surya Namaskar (sun salutations) right for you
- options for modification
- how to go at a pace right for you
- how to count the 108 (counting beans thoughtfully provided!)
- how to rest and care for yourself following the practice
Why 108?
This number has significance across many disciplines, from math to astronomy and religion to philosophy:
- 108 is a Harshad number–an integer divisible by the sum of its digits
- the distance from both the sun and moon to the earth is 108 times their respective diameters
- there are 108 marma points in the body–these are the junctions where two or more types of tissue meet
- Mala prayer beads used in both Hinduism and Buddhism consists of 108 per strand
- Buddhist tradition says there are 108 earthly temptations a person must overcome to achieve nirvana; in Gnosticism, a person has 108 chances to transcend the material world; Hindus believe the Atman (inner self) goes through 108 stages of spiritual development
