OVERVIEW
Join Swell for a curiosity-fueled journey into the world of inversions and arm balances. This dynamic workshop is designed to support students of all levels in developing confidence, body awareness, and playfulness in their upside-down practice. Whether you’re working toward your first headstand or refining your press, you’ll gain knowledge and tools to help you tumble into the next step of your journey.
Together, we’ll approach arm balancing inversions a as part of our long-term, sustained practice, rather than something to perfect in a single day. We will learn how to build strength and mobility, better understand our unique body mechanics, and develop a mindset that welcomes the wobble, the effort, and the play.
- strength & stability | inversions require deep core engagement, shoulder activation, and whole-body integration
- refined body awareness | balance teaches you to listen to your alignment and the micro-adjustments that keep you centered
- confidence & creativity | inversions offer you the freedom to rediscover what you think you know about your body
- shift in perspective | flipping your world upside down and opens your mind to curiosity, humility, and play
Falling is part of the process. Wobbling is part of the learning. And somewhere in all that effort, you just might surprise yourself with what you’re capable of.
WHAT TO EXPECT
This workshop isn’t about perfection, it’s about discovery. You’ll move, experiment, and get curious about how your body supports you in ways you might not expect. Here’s how we’ll break it down:
Movement warm up
We’ll warm our bodies with a yoga session designed to open key areas (like shoulders, wrists, and hamstrings) and get us grounded before flipping upside down.
Discussion + Drills
Deep dive into the what, how, and why of balancing inversions. Through targeted drills and strength-building exercises, you’ll learn how to activate the right muscles and build the foundation for a sustainable practice.
Asana + Alignment
Get into the nitty-gritty of poses like headstand, forearm stand, handstand. Kianna will offer alignment instruction, safety tips, and plenty of modifications to support your practice.
PRACTICE + PLAY
Bring it all together with exploration! With the support of your fellow students, you’ll work in pairs to spot and assist as you try new shapes. Fall safely, laugh a lot, and discover what’s possible when you let go of perfection and lean into play.
Your Host
Kianna Miller

Kianna first found yoga as a longtime athlete looking for more balance in her movements. Though she began practice purely for the physical benefits, she soon discovered the emotional and spiritual depth yoga has to offer. She found a space to breathe, to tumble, to feel, and to figure things out (on and off the mat).
Inversions have been one of the most unexpectedly humbling parts of her practice. Learning to go upside down has helped her shift her relationship with fear and failure by leaning into laughter and letting go. Every fall, flail, and tiny moment of lift-off has been a reminder that yoga isn’t about getting it right, it’s about showing up, trying again, and enjoying the ride.
