A Weekend with Bhavani Maki (2022)

Hatha Yoga and Philosophy Intensive

Friday, Dec 2-Sunday, Dec 4, 2022

Join international yoga teacher, musician, and author Bhavani Maki for a weekend of yoga asana (posture), prāṇāyāma (breathwork), and Sūtra (philosophy).

The three asana practices will focus on each of the three granthis (knots):

  • Brahma Granthi (low back, sacrum, hips) (Friday)
  • Vishnu Granthi (shoulders, chest, upper back) (Saturday)
  • Rudra Granthi (neck and head) (Sunday)

The two philosophy discussions will focus on the Yama and Niyama from Patanjali’s Yoga Sūtra.

Bhavani is Swell teacher Natalie Hanson’s beloved mentor and the author of The Yogīs Roadmap: The Patañjali Yoga Sūtra as a Journey to Self Realization

Saturday Afternoon Discussion

Yama – The Yogik Code of Conduct

Yoga answers our soul’s deepest calling to experience love, connection, and freedom. If we are to proceed on the path towards personal fulfillment, we will need a moral compass to set the parameters of our conduct. The Yama articulate how we align with virtue in our natural state, and live together in the harmony of our oneness and diversity.

Sunday Morning Practice

9-11:30am

Rudra Granthi – Neck and Head

Granthi (“knot” in Sanskrit) are experienced as a niggling pain, feeling knotted or tied up. Rudra Granthi is experienced in the neck and head and can result in headache, anxiety, and insomnia. Transform tension into dynamic energy with skillful exploration of asana (yoga postures), prāṇāyāma (breathwork), and Sūtra wisdom.

Sunday Afternoon Discussion

1:30-3:45pm

Niyama – The Codes of Personal Conduct

The process of yoga is an inside job. The Niyama address the attitudes that we have towards ourselves and behave when no one is looking. When we work to achieve a highly refined consciousness, we realize we have everything we need to live a life of magnificence.
